Coffs Harbour is located on Northern New South Wales coast line. The first settlers here were rumored to be escaped convicts that took refuge on Muttonbird island, however the first recorded settlers were timber getters in 1841. Timber cutting remained the most important industry well into the 1900's, flourishing after the completion of the Jetty in 1892. Gold mining, fruit growing, dairying, and sugar cane farming also became popular, although many of these earlier ventures failed.

Coffs Harbour is packed with family-friendly attractions including beaches, water sports, adventure sports, indoor attractions, restaurants and cafes. The hillsides around the town are smothered in banana palms which makes sense that the icon for the city is the big banana, one of the most photographed backdrops in the country.
