Karratha is located in Western Australia, 1557km north of Perth. Europeans saw the potential of the fertile country and started with grazing sheep at Karratha Station in 1866, this only operated until 1879 but grazing dominated the area for the next 100 years. Karratha was built to service and accommodate workers mining iron ore in the Hamersley Ranges.
