Longreach is located in outback Queensland only 686km drive from Rockhampton. In 1860 two explorers searching for new grazing lands came upon this area and saw it's potential. In 1863 a pastoral lease was granted to the partnership of the Scottish Australia Company, however it wasn't until November 1887, the township of Longreach was gazetted. The name 'Longreach' had been used prior to the establishment of the town by an outstation of 'Mt Cornish'.

The Longreach Regional Council covers an area of 40,638 square kilometers and has a total population of approximately 4700. Longreach has a wonderful history and the activities to keep the family interested from the Billabong river cruises to the company beginning of the Qantas airline.
