It was in 1829 that Captain James Stirling founded the city of Perth but it wasn't until 1942 that the Dunreath golf course was converted to the RAAF base. The then named Guildford Aerorome officially changed its name to Perth Airport in September 1952. Over the years the terminal has had extentions and face lifts but it wasn't until October 1986 that Prime Minister Bob Hawke unveiled the A$60 million International Terminal on the eastern side of the airport, complete with a new control tower.
